Setting up SSO on Okta
Updated over 8 months ago

Please use the following steps to enable Single Sign-on (SSO) using Okta for the StreamAlive-powered chat. When SSO is enabled, participants can only join the chat after authentication.

*Please note that SSO is only available for Pro+ users during in-person and hybrid sessions.

Step 1: Access your Okta Dashboard

  1. Click on Applications and select “Create App Integration”

  2. From the Create a new app integration pop-up, choose SAML 2.0

Step 2: Create a SAML Integration in Okta

  1. When creating the SAML integration, name the app under “General Settings”. We recommend calling the app “StreamAlive”.

  2. Under Single sign-on URL, please enter: https://app.streamalive.com/api/auth/sso/callback and select the box to use it for Recipient URL and Destination URL.

  3. For the Audience URI, please use: app.streamalive.com.

  4. Copy your Metadata URL from the Okta app

  5. Go to the StreamAlive App’s Settings (app.streamalive.com/settings) > StreamAlive Chat > Single Sign-On, and paste the URL under “idp Metadata URL”. Save these changes.

Step 3: Assign the Okta application to anyone who will need access

Under Assignments, assign the StreamAlive app to everyone who will need access to StreamAlive. This includes all meeting participants and the meeting host. Please make sure that you have stated that the application icon should not be displayed to users.

Step 4: Add a session on StreamAlive

  1. Make sure that you have completed Step 2, and set up SSO on the StreamAlive app under Settings > StreamAlive Chat.

  2. Create the in-person session for the event, and fill in the necessary details. (For example, one could create a session from the StreamAlive Sessions page by clicking on “Add session”.)

  3. On the StreamAlive Sessions page, access the session’s Settings > Audience Settings, and enable SSO.

Step 5: During your StreamAlive session

  1. Direct participants to chat.streamalive.com and ask them to enter the meeting code.

  2. The participant should sign in using SSO when prompted, and proceed with Okta as they would for any other application.

  3. They will then be redirected to the StreamAlive-provided chat for the session!
