StreamAlive Zoom Connection Troubleshooting Guide

Updated today

This document provides detailed solutions for common error messages you might encounter when connecting StreamAlive to your Zoom meetings and webinars.

Error: This is a registration link. Please enter a meeting or webinar link.

What it means: You've likely pasted a link that participants use to register for the Zoom meeting or webinar, rather than the direct link to join the live session itself. StreamAlive needs the direct join link to connect properly.

How to resolve:

  1. (If required) Complete Registration First: Go through the Zoom registration process using the link you have.

  2. Find the Direct Join Link: Zoom will typically display a page with the actual "Join Meeting" or "Click Here to Join" link. This is the link StreamAlive needs.

  3. Paste the Correct Link: Copy and paste this direct join link into StreamAlive when scheduling or connecting to your session.

Error: This is a Zoom Events link. Please enter a meeting or webinar link.

What it means: You've provided a link to a general Zoom Event page (e.g., the event lobby or information page), not the specific join link for a particular session or meeting.

How to resolve for a Zoom Events Session:

  1. Navigate to the Specific Session: Go to your Zoom Event.

  2. Find the Session Join Link: Locate the specific session (e.g., a breakout room, a main stage presentation) you intend to use StreamAlive with. There should be a unique join link for that individual session.

  3. Paste the Correct Link: Copy and paste this specific session join link into StreamAlive.

How to resolve for a regular meeting or webinar:

Error: Please enter a valid meeting or webinar link.

What it means: The link you've entered does not appear to be a valid Zoom meeting or webinar URL. This could be due to a typo, an incomplete link, or a link from an unsupported platform.

How to resolve:

  1. Check for Typos: Double-check the link you copied and pasted for any spelling errors or missing characters.

  2. Ensure Full Link: Make sure you've copied the entire link, starting with https://zoom.us/j/ or similar.

  3. Verify Platform: Confirm that the link is indeed a Zoom link and not from another meeting or streaming platform.

  4. Obtain from Source: Go back to your Zoom invitation, calendar event, or event dashboard and re-copy the link directly.

Error: Please enter a meeting link.

What it means: The meeting link field in StreamAlive is empty.

How to resolve:

  1. Locate Your Meeting Link: Find the join link for your scheduled Zoom meeting or webinar.

  2. Paste the Link: Enter or paste the complete meeting link into the designated field in StreamAlive.

Error: This meeting requires manual registration. Please paste the meeting link after registering.

What it means: StreamAlive attempted to automatically register for your meeting but was unable to do so. This usually happens because the Zoom meeting's registration form includes mandatory questions that require a manual response (beyond basic information).

How to resolve:

  1. Register Manually: Go to the registration link for your Zoom meeting or webinar and complete the registration process yourself.

  2. Receive Join Link: After successfully registering, Zoom will send you a confirmation email or display a page with the actual "Join Meeting" or direct access link.

  3. Paste the Post-Registration Link: Copy and paste this final join link into StreamAlive. StreamAlive can then use this link to connect to your already registered session.

Error: Authorization failed. Please try again.

What it means: There was a temporary issue with the connection between your StreamAlive account and your Zoom account during the authorization process.

How to resolve:

  1. Try Again: Click the "Authorize" button (or equivalent) in StreamAlive again to re-initiate the authorization process.

  2. Check Internet Connection: Ensure you have a stable internet connection.

  3. Clear Browser Cache: Sometimes, clearing your browser's cache and cookies can help resolve authorization issues.

  4. Re-log into Zoom: Log out of your Zoom account (both in the client and web browser) and then log back in before attempting authorization again.

Error: Zoom reported a connection error: The meeting number is not found.

What it means: Zoom is indicating that the meeting ID associated with the link you provided either does not exist or the meeting has not yet started/is over.

How to resolve:

  1. Verify Meeting ID: Double-check the meeting ID in your link against your Zoom invitation or calendar. Ensure there are no typos.

  2. Check Meeting Status: Confirm that the Zoom meeting is scheduled to be active (i.e., not in the past or too far in the future, and the host has started it if applicable).

  3. Host Has Started: If you are not the host, ensure the meeting host has already started the Zoom meeting.

  4. Update Zoom App: Make sure your Zoom desktop client is updated to the latest version.

Error: Zoom reported a connection error: The bot may have been manually removed.

What it means: The StreamAlive bot, which connects to your Zoom session to read the chat, appears to have been manually removed from the Zoom meeting by a host or co-host.

How to resolve:

  1. Admit Bot (if in Waiting Room): If your meeting has a Waiting Room enabled, ensure you admit the StreamAlive bot when it attempts to join.

  2. Check Participant List: As the host, check your Zoom participant list to see if the StreamAlive bot is present or if it was removed.

  3. Allow Rejoin: Ensure that "Allow removed participants to rejoin" is enabled in your Zoom meeting settings if you wish to have the bot rejoin after being removed.

  4. Reconnect in StreamAlive: Go to your StreamAlive session and try to disconnect and then reconnect. You may need to admit the bot again in Zoom.

Error: Please authorize your Zoom account on StreamAlive.

What it means: StreamAlive needs permission to access certain information from your Zoom account (like meeting details or to register for meetings on your behalf) to function correctly. This authorization has not been granted or has expired.

How to resolve:

  1. Initiate Authorization: Follow the prompts in StreamAlive to begin the Zoom authorization process.

  2. Grant Permissions: On the Zoom authorization screen that appears, carefully review the requested permissions and click "Allow" or "Authorize."

  3. Account Mismatch: If you're encountering an account mismatch error, ensure you are logged into the correct Zoom account in your client before authorizing.
