Twitch
Updated this week

This tutorial will show you how to connect to Twitch. If you’d like to learn how to connect to other platforms, please refer to our other articles.

This can be achieved in two ways:

  1. Using the StreamAlive bot to connect directly to your Twitch account

In this article we’ll explain the second point, using the StreamAlive bot. However, here’s the documentation if you’d like to explore using the StreamAlive Chrome Extension.

In both cases, using the extension and the bot, the result is the same. Your audience comments are picked up and processed by StreamAlive to turn them into the visual interactions on your screen.

For the bot to work, StreamAlive requires that your live stream is either scheduled in Twitch or already started.

Here is how you can schedule or begin a Twitch livestream.

(If you already know how to schedule/begin a Twitch session, click here to skip this part)

Schedule/Start a YouTube Livestream

  1. Access Twitch Channel

Click on your display icon on the top right and then click on Channel

  2. Go to the Schedule tab

  3. Click on Edit Schedule

  4. Click on Add Stream

  5. Fill in the stream details and click on Save Changes

  6. Find the listing in your Stream Schedule

Connecting StreamAlive to your Twitch

  1. Access the Sessions Tab in StreamAlive

On the StreamAlive homepage, click on the Sessions tab on the left-side menu.

  2. Create a new session

Click on the + Add session button on the top-right corner of the page to schedule a meeting.

Once you’re on the Sessions page, you can view all your past sessions completed as well as the upcoming sessions which you can schedule by using the + Add session button on the top-right corner of the page.

  3. Choose the required platform

A pop-up window will appear showing you the supported platforms. Click on YouTube

  4. Authorize StreamAlive to have access to your Twitch account

This will ask you to choose the Google account that is linked to your Twitch account.

Once authorized, StreamAlive can then pick up your scheduled streams to connect to.

  5. Select one of your scheduled live streams

StreamAlive will automatically retrieve the scheduled Twitch livestream that you created earlier in this guide.

Important: Please note that you must schedule or start a streaming session before connecting to StreamAlive. See the first part of this tutorial for instructions.\

  6. Add your presentation to the session

Your presentation contains your polls, word clouds, spinner wheels, and other interactions that are powered through StreamAlive using the chat.

If you don't have a presentation prepared you can continue without one and use the quick interactions instead.

If you want to use a presentation to plan your interactions and slides in advance, you can create a presentation by clicking on the + New presentation button on the bottom left corner of the pop-up.

Now, once selected, click on Add session.

  7. Your session has been scheduled

When the time comes, find your scheduled session and click on Present

  8. Display of the Live Presentation Screen

Once you’ve clicked on Present, you will be taken to the live presentation screen which will launch in a new browser tab. This is where you can run and manage your presentation slides and interactions.

  9. Share your screen using your Streaming Tool

For this step, we’ll be using OBS to stream and share screen. But the process is the same regardless of the streaming tool that you use.

  10. Click on Start Streaming

  11. Ask your audience to type their answers in the chat

When the interaction you created in your presentation is shown on the screen you can ask your audience to enter their answers in the chat. StreamAlive will automatically pick up their answers and update the interaction on your screen in real time.

  12. StreamAlive powers the interaction

The StreamAlive bot will then take these responses and power the interaction.

With this, you have successfully connected StreamAlive to Twitch.
