Connecting StreamAlive Chrome Extension to YouTube
Updated over a week ago

StreamAlive allows you to integrate interactive elements seamlessly into your YouTube livestream.

This article explains how to use StreamAlive’s Chrome extension to read the chat from your YouTube livestream and turn them into visual interactions like polls and word clouds.

Another option is you can allow a ‘bot’ to connect to your YouTube livestream. This authorizes StreamAlive to find your scheduled/running live streams, connect to them, and then read the chat to turn those responses into visual interactions.

Follow these simple steps to connect the StreamAlive Chrome extension and start enhancing your professional live streams:

  1. Add the StreamAlive Chrome extension to your browser

    • Go to chromewebstore.google.com

    • Search for "StreamAlive" in the search bar

    • Click on the StreamAlive listing

    • Click on Add to Chrome

    • Confirm by clicking on Add Extension

    • Pin the extension

  2. Start your YouTube live stream

    • Access YouTube Studio

Go to your YouTube studio. You can find it on the menu available by clicking on your YouTube profile picture in the top right corner or by scrolling down on the left-hand menu.

    • Access Go Live to create a Live stream

Once you’re in the Youtube Studio, click on Create in the top right corner and then click on Go Live. You’ll be taken to a new page with Go Live options.

    • On the Go Live page, you can schedule a live stream or start a live stream immediately.

      Scheduling a new livestream:

      1. Click on Manage on the left-hand side menu.

      2. On the top right, you will find Schedule Stream

      Starting a Livestream immediately:

      1. Click on Webcam, fill in the live stream details, and click on Done.

      2. Finally, click on GO LIVE to start the live stream

  3. Activate the StreamAlive Chrome Extension

    • Go to the video viewing link on YouTube. You can find this by clicking on the share button and copying the link

    • Click on the StreamAlive extension icon in your Chrome toolbar.

    • Click on Connect

  4. Run StreamAlive

  5. Share the StreamAlive tab using YouTube’s Share Screen button

  6. Ask your audience to start typing in responses in the chat

  7. StreamAlive will then take these answers and power the interactions

That's it! You've successfully connected StreamAlive to your YouTube Livestream.

Additional Notes:
